Wedding Ring Shopping 101: What To Look For In A Moissanite Ring

November 11, 2022 Hannah Lomas

Wedding Ring Shopping 101: What To Look For In A Moissanite Ring

Moissanite is one of the most brilliant stones and is very close to diamonds. It got its name from Henri Moissan, a French scientist, who first identified this mineral form of silicon carbide correctly. Often mistaken for diamond, moissanite can shine brighter than the former, giving it a higher superiority level than all other types of gemstones.

Moissanite crystals are very rare, given their unparalleled brilliance among manufactured jewels. Many brides opt for moissanite for wedding rings, given that it’s often cheaper than diamonds but not inferior in terms of brilliance.

That said, you can’t enjoy the distinct glory of moissanite if you cannot choose the best. It would help if you considered certain factors when saying ‘I Do’ to a moissanite wedding ring, among all other facets of completing the wedding of your dreams. Fortunately, this article provides five factors. Read on.

  • The Cost

If you’re a couple on a budget, you’ll be glad to know that moissanite wedding rings are more budget-friendly than diamond rings. When shopping, you may have more leeway to choose the ring you want without necessarily going over the budget.

Like shopping for any other jewelry, the cost is always one of the most significant factors that should shape your decision. You can simplify the wedding ring shopping process by immediately narrowing it down based on budget. Yes, your dream 3 carat moissanite ring can still be within reach with the right price and supplier.

  • The Moissanite Grade

Moissanite is a gem of its own, one that’s lab-grown. Like diamonds, however, it’s also classified according to various grading systems. Generally, there are three: classic moissanite, colorless, and near-colorless moissanite.

The distinction between the three are as follows:

  • Classic moissanite is one with a yellowish-green stone. These were the first types of moissanite when technology wasn’t as advanced as it is now.

  • Colorless moissanite resembles an E-color diamond, (which has the second-whitest color on the standard grading scale and will appear bright white without a hint of color)

  • Near-colorless moissanite looks more like the H-color diamond, which is in the top half of the near-colorless range.

Each of those grading moissanite grading systems comes with its pros and cons. Ultimately, the choice boils down to the bride’s preference. It’s best to discuss your wish with your moissanite wedding ring supplier so they can present you with options across each grading type.

  • The Cut

You’ll have to be very cautious about this third point. The definition of ‘cut’ for diamonds and moissanite is different. The former is used in terms of scale, while the latter is graded on the clarity scale. Hence, the ‘cut’ shouldn’t be your sole deciding factor.

Ask about this when you’re choosing from among various moissanite wedding rings. A good supplier should be patient enough to explain all the differences to you so you can iron out all those gray areas you're thinking of.

  • The Quality

Moissanite is one of the most durable stones on earth. It boasts a 9.25 rating on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. Diamond, of course, reigns supreme at 10. But, with a difference only of 0.75, that’s not too bad, given the wider difference in price.

Moissanite is also harder than sapphire and ruby. One of the advantages of using this type of gemstone for your wedding ring is it can survive daily wear and tear, as it doesn’t scratch or wear off easily.

Along that line, it’s a must to check that the moissanite wedding you’re buying indeed lives up to that expectation of quality. Otherwise, you’re only shortlisting yourself off its quality. Be skeptical about suppliers who aren’t transparent about that, as you could be ripping yourself off the moissanite wedding ring you deserve.

  • The Distinct Characteristics And Brilliance

This following insight may be obvious, but it’s still worth emphasizing. Don't be one of those wedding ring shoppers who insist on having a moissanite ring that’s exactly like a diamond. Those two are very distinct, though they may look similar. So, make life simple on your part by understanding, before you even shop, that moissanite is not diamond, and it’ll never be.

There are many distinctions between both, such as:

  • Moissanite has a more colored sparkle than diamond;

  • Moissanite repels oil and dirt better than diamond;

  • Moissanite has a fire-like sparkle, evident when you move the ring around;

  • Moissanite stones have more flexibility, especially for customizing, as they’re lab-made, compared to natural diamonds.

Knowing those distinctions can help you better understand how moissanite and diamonds are very different from each other. That way, when you shop, you can focus more on what moissanite rings have rather than what they don’t have, so you’ll never pressure yourself into comparing them with diamonds.

Conclusion

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but so can moissanite rings. With many brides being more conscious about their decisions, the demand for moissanite rings may have risen in recent years. There’s no sacrificing the shine and quality with moissanite rings, as you may have to with a diamond’s budget-breaking price tag. There are loads to get by, but you can’t go wrong with a well-known and good moissanite ring supplier. This is your wedding ring, after all. Like your marriage, it should be one meant to last a lifetime.

A Guide to Buying a Solitaire Ring

January 19, 2022 Hannah Lomas

The word "solitaire" is commonly used to describe jewellery with just one diamond and no side stones. When used in jewellery, a solitaire emphasizes the importance of a single stone within the design.

The moment has finally arrived, and you're arranging a stunning proposal that reflects your love perfectly. Purchasing a solitaire ring for your significant other might be the most important purchase you have ever made. It would help if you chose something you think they'll like after all, they'll be wearing it for years.

When purchasing solitaires, there are a few things to keep in mind, whether from a local jeweller or online. Our buying a solitaire ring guide walks you through the procedures to ensure you get the appropriate ring. Everything is covered, from establishing a budget to selecting a stone and determining her ring size.

What Should You Look for in a Solitaire Ring?

Nothing better exemplifies "less is more" than a diamond solitaire. Such glittering gems may give a touch of brilliance to your style and are both classy and attractive. When choosing a solitaire, it's crucial to consider the qualities and the stone's quality.

A solitaire, or any diamond for that matter, is graded on four different levels. The 4Cs indicate these four levels: cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight. Reputable jeweller like Anania Jewellers will ensure that the person buying the rings receives the best advice on looking for solitaire rings.

1. Make A Budget

Contrary to common assumption, it is not required to spend two months' pay on the ring. What matters about it is that you spend as little as you can and get the greatest bang for your buck.

The person wearing the ring should be happy with the look, which is all that matters.

If the couple starts the marriage with a lot of debt, especially for the ring, it could lead to financial strain later. Should both partners decide that they want to spend a few extra on their perfect day, consider financing alternatives we provide 0% financing and flexible deposits, allowing you to spread the cost of the ring over a certain period.

2. Color

Diamonds come in a variety of colours in nature. They range in colour from colourless to light yellow and even brown. The most valuable and rarest gems are colourless diamonds. They are also, unsurprisingly, the most costly ones on the market. It indicates that the more colourless your solitaire is, the more valuable it is. Choose a colourless or almost colourless stone if you want a high-quality stone, but also keep in mind what the person would like in terms of the design. If the plans call for a different colour, discuss this with the jeweller before making any purchases.

3. Shape

The form of your solitaire is the starting point for the design of your ring. It is a matter of your choice (or that of your spouse). The most common diamond shape for solitaire rings is the round brilliant, with maximum sparkle. Some people prefer a more unusual form, such as a Cushion Cut or an Oval. You may question your partner's relatives and friends if you're unsure what she likes.

4. Clarity

Natural flaws are known to exist in the majority of diamonds. Internal marks are inclusions, whereas outward scars are referred to as blemishes. These flaws influence the clarity of a diamond. In some instances, the spots are not apparent to the human eye. When choosing a solitaire, go for one with a high clarity rating. It indicates that it will be free of flaws.

5. Identify The Ring Size

If the proposal is a surprise, there are several options for determining her ring size. If she wears rings regularly, get a ring size app and measure the band she wears the most. If both of you decided upon the engagement, as is the case with many proposals these days, just inquiring about her ring size is a fine idea. Then you may either surprise her with the ring or go shopping together.

6. Consultation

Even though purchasing a solitaire ring is a highly personal decision, getting a second perspective is usually beneficial. An expert may walk you through the design and components of your ideal ring during a consultation, emphasizing the value of the 4Cs: cut clarity, colour, and carat.

7. Selecting A Diamond

The 4Cs are the most critical aspects of a diamond that you should evaluate before purchasing. When judging the quality of a diamond, colour, cut, clarity, and carat are essential factors. Each component impacts the stone's look, ensuring that you obtain the most remarkable stone for your money.

8. Report On Diamond Grading

A diamond grading report from an independent, scientific source like the (GIA) is more than just helpful information; it's verifying what you're getting. Diamond variances may be so slight that even an experienced jeweller couldn't tell them apart without lab proof. Insist that every diamond you buy be accompanied by irrefutable evidence of its quality.

9. Warranty

The lifetime manufacturing guarantee from Steven Stone implies that if the solitaire ring is damaged due to a flaw, we will repair it free.

10. Insurance

Because a solitaire ring is likely to be one of your most costly purchases, be careful to insure it against theft, loss, or damage. Jewellery insurance may be highly affordable, so it's something to think about.

Tying It All Together

A wedding is an extraordinary occasion for the bride and groom, and it’s the day that symbolises their union. One of the items they’ll carry with them for life will be their wedding rings as a constant reminder of the bond they now share.

Depending on the budget the couple wants to stick to and their individual preferences, there’ll be a perfect ring for them, including solitaire diamond rings. As long as they consult a reputable jeweller, they should find the ring they won’t forget to make their big day even more special.

What You Absolutely Need to Know About Buying Wedding Rings

Buying a wedding ring is often an exciting and nerve-wracking task. Considering that the perfect wedding requires the perfect rings, and you want the whole event to go off without a hitch, you need to make sure you get the wedding ring right. There’s a few things that you should probably know about buying wedding rings, and we’ll be covering them here. Let’s get started.

Measurements Need to Be Exact

Like an engagement ring, the wedding ring needs to be exactly measured to get the best results. This has the potential to go really wrong if you don’t do it right, so you need to make sure that your wedding ring is perfect from start to finish, and it starts with the measurements.

Your measurements need to make sure that they conform to generally accepted ring sizes and that they are for the right finger. Check out this blog, Which Finger Does An Engagement Ring Go On, to get a better idea of that.

Choose the Right Style

Style can be so important when choosing the right kind of wedding ring for your specific needs. Obviously, you’re going to want to make sure that the wedding ring you choose is one which will be suitable for the rest of your life.

Your wedding ring is something you’ll wear everyday, so you should think about longevity in your choice. Do you want a simple wedding band (and here’s why) to compliment everyday life? Or are you the type of person who wants something more ornate? Whatever you choose to do, there is a wedding band for you so it is worth picking what will work best.

Do You Want to Match

Many people like the idea of their wedding bands matching and so they actively go out of their way to find two bands which will work for both partners and still match up at the same time.

If this sounds like something you want to do, then you need to take the time to look at what’s available. Choosing a matching wedding band is one of the best ways to make sure that your experience is a positive one. A marching wedding band will look lovely in photos and will be a reminder of your partner, so it’s good to pick one.

Final Thoughts

Purchasing the ideal wedding ring for your needs will be very important. There are many different types of wedding bands for you to choose, so it’s important to take a look at what’s available to get the best results. If you take your time and experiment with what’s on offer, then you’ll be able to find the ideal configuration of options. This article will help you to choose a wedding ring for yourself, otherwise, feel free to experiment with what’s available and make sure that you select the ideal option for your needs. You will only need one wedding ring, so it’s important to get it right.

What Do You Need To Know When Planning A Traditional Irish Wedding?

Basing your wedding around a set of traditions is always a popular choice for couples to make. The great thing about traditions is that they give you a framework to follow. You can go out and research all the different things that are typically part of your wedding day, implementing them into your plans. While there are lots of different traditional weddings out there, an Irish wedding is perhaps one of the most well-known. This is purely because it contains lots of different Celtic wedding traditions that make the ceremony and reception very unique.

With that in mind, there is a lot to know if you want to plan your own traditional Irish wedding. One of the most important aspects is the Claddagh Ring, which is the traditional Irish wedding ring. It's significantly different from a more typical wedding ring, but that makes it even more special. Alongside this, you have elements of the ceremony to consider - like the Celtic oathing stone and the Celtic grushie. Reading up on things like this will put you in a better position to plan a wedding that follows these traditions correctly. While you are free to pick and choose which elements of a traditional Irish wedding to include, it's always important that you follow these elements properly.

So, what else do you need to know about Irish or Celtic weddings? If you carry on scrolling, you'll find all the details in a neat infographic by Claddagh Rings. It explains the main traditions and the meanings behind them, helping you plan your special day:

The Essential Guide to Engagement Ring Diamonds!

April 1, 2021 Hannah Lomas

The time has finally come! The time to join together in a union of love and devotion. It is time to pick your diamond engagement ring! The beauty and durability of a fine diamond combined with precious metal's strength and purity continue to evoke the perfect promise of an enduring and wonderful marriage for lovers everywhere. But where do you start? It is not like engagement rings are rare and aren't sold anyway. That's a misconception. There are so many different options that it is bound to get confusing and overwhelming. The first thing to think about is the diamond, but how do you choose a certified diamond engagement ring?

Select a Shape:

Round Diamonds:

If you are unsure about the shape, it may be helpful to know that round diamonds are by far the most popular choice due to their fire, brilliance and light performance!

Princess Diamonds:

Princess diamonds feature an angular, contemporary beauty that looks gorgeous in classic and geometric settings. They offer the brilliance of a brilliant round diamond but with a modern twist.

Cushion Diamonds:

Cushion diamonds are an ideal choice for anyone who wants a more vintage-inspired look! It is an attractive alternative to a Princess Cut for those preferring a more rectangular shape.

Step Cut Diamonds:

Asscher and emerald diamonds are step cut diamonds that create a sleek, elegant appearance. They are more transparent than round diamonds.

Pear-shaped Diamonds:

Pear-shaped diamonds are more distinctive in shape. They help make fingers look long and slender due to their elongated appearance. They are also larger than the heart-shaped diamond.

Heart-shaped diamonds:

For you die-hard romantics, the heart-shaped diamond can express your sentiment with a flourish!

How many stones?

How many stones are too many stones in your engagement ring? The correct answer is there are never too many stones!

Three stone rings are a popular choice today with their symbolic message of yesterday, today and tomorrow. It usually consists of a centre diamond enhanced by two matching smaller diamonds. It creates an impressive display of brilliance and fire, and the smaller accent diamonds create an even fancier look.

Colour:

Most people prefer a colourless or white diamond or a colour that is not very detectable to the untrained eye, but why not have a pop colour? Why not branch out of the typical diamond colour and go for something unique? Coloured engagement rings encompass both fancy colour diamond rings and vivid gemstone rings such as rubies and sapphires. Both classic and contemporary designers can bring forth a striking engagement rung with a bit of colour! For example, Aquamarine is an unexpected yet stunning choice for an engagement ring, with its soft hue creating a timeless and unique look. What about morganite for a peachy number, emerald or yellow cut to cement a gorgeous band? Pink tourmaline or London blue topaz for a vivid cerulean hue?

The most significant element of any engagement ring is the diamonds that go into them. You need fine-cut craftsmanship and something that can symbolise your future relationship in the best way possible!
